Thoughts on Project
This was the first project in which I participated and the research results have already been put out and I've been very intrigued by them. They actually were able to come to a conclusion about the shape of the cell so there was a phase two of the project which included an already put out sketch for the cell that you just need to adjust so that it can become more accurate. In addition, I got used to volunteering on zooniverse through this project but it was also a very time-consuming one because of the precision which was required when tracing around the cell. I also thought at the start that I didn't really understand the reason for the project but as I continued to become more familiar with it and with zooniverse it started to make more sense. I liked this project and I would participate in similar ones in the future about cells since that's an area of study (molecular biology) in which I've been interested! I would recommend this project but it for sure is a great place to start and a great place to go to get motivated since the results are coming out fast.
The goal of this project was to help researchers learn more about the structures that make up cells! Zooniverse as well as Francis Crick Institute want to create better electron microscopes to be able to use to identify various changes in biological samples. In order to create better technology, the cell features of interest have to be drawn around so that they are more identifiable. Once the nuclear envelope, this segment is traced around, it can give us information on many different virus infections and cancers. This not only provides us insight about the cell itself but things that differences in shapes of cells cause such as diseases.
